The Thing - Extrait de Parfum
From the twisted imagination (and nose) of perfumer Killian Wells, The Thing by Xyrena is a paradox of extremes—fire and ice, man and monster.
Based on John Carpenter’s 1982 sci-fi horror masterpiece, this official Cinematic Scent Archive™ adaptation captures the isolated dread of U.S. Outpost #31 with an opening that hits like a blast of cold Antarctic air—clean, sharp, and unnervingly sterile.
Beneath the frozen surface, a sinister warmth creeps in. Charred woods and diatomaceous earth conjure the chaos of flamethrowers and dynamite as MacReady fights to destroy something he can’t even define. A waft of scotch whisky cuts through the haze, laced with a hint of fried electrical components from that “cheating bitch” Chess Wizard. Beneath it all is something sweet and familiar—but metallic and alien—like a niche fragrance trying to convince you it’s designer.
The Thing is an infectious signature scent that mutates—it’ll have people asking what you’re wearing… or what’s wearing you.
Wearability
Xyrena produces both avant-garde and highly wearable modern fragrances, along with those that fall somewhere in between. Fragrance preference is entirely subjective; however, we provide our assessment of wearability below.
Chase Bottles
Xyrena Chase Bottles are ultra-rare, limited-edition variants randomly seeded into select production runs. The vast majority of bottles remain the signature matte black edition, while a small fraction of Chase variants are distributed unpredictably across both retail and direct purchases. Select Chase editions may occasionally be released separately at Xyrena’s sole discretion.
Packaging & Authenticity
To preserve the blind, discovery-driven nature of the Chase program, each bottle ships inside a sealed VHS case secured with a tamper-evident authenticity seal along the interior spine. This seal ensures the bottle remains untouched until opened for the first time.
Every Chase Bottle includes a serialized Certificate of Authenticity. Xyrena maintains a permanent, non-public registry of these serial numbers tied to their specific releases and finishes for future verification.
Variants & Finishes
Chase Bottles may feature alternate bottle colors, specialized paint finishes, variant labels or treatments (including holographic, glow-in-the-dark, and other unique effects), or combinations thereof.
These editions are hand-finished in extremely small batches using processes distinct from standard production. Subtle variations and minor imperfections are inherent and embraced as part of each bottle’s individual character. Some finishes may be more delicate than the matte black edition — handle with care.
Important Policies
Chase Bottle editions rotate in and out of active production without notice. If a Chase variant is not currently shown on a Xyrena product page, it is not in active production, though previously released Chases may still circulate through official channels or the secondary market (Xyrena does not endorse or guarantee third-party transactions).
Because Chase Bottles are produced in small, random quantities, they cannot be replaced with another Chase if damaged in transit. In such cases, a standard edition replacement will be provided.
Collector Notes
Chase Bottles are among the rarest officially licensed artifacts Xyrena has ever created — designed to be hunted, discovered, collected, and preserved.
No external marking identifies a Chase from the outside. Every sealed bottle carries the same potential.
Hunt wisely — every standard bottle holds the potential for something legendary.
